1948

1948 Ford Coupe In 1941, Ford introduced a heavily updated version of its bestselling sedan, but the onset of WW2 meant that production was halted in the interest of wartime production. The design was resumed after the war and a 1946 model was introduced with updated styling and was very similar to the earlier cars. 1948 was the last year for the body style, and the car was a great seller and the cars have become more popular in recent years. Classic Auto Mall is pleased to present this very nice 1948 Ford Coupe for your consideration. This car is in wonderful condition inside and out, with excellent red paint and shiny chrome trim. The exterior features nice detailing and rides on wide BF Goodrich TA Radial tires. The interior is a custom cloth and is very clean, with interesting original instrumentation and trim. Exterior Retaining all the original body panels, we see a beautiful long hood flanked by large fenders that house chrome bezeled headlights, a big horizontal ribbed FORD gri lle, and a curved bumper. All this is in excellent condition. Moving rearward, we note straight door panel with a slight flair at the bottom, and a stainless trim piece along the bottom. Going from the hood to the rear across the doors is another straight pointed belt line trim in excellent shiny condition. Another trim piece wraps around the middle of the fenders, and halts at each door adding to the shapely curve of the fenders. A split windshield with awesome chrome trim 2 search lights and chromed mirrors flank both sides and attach to the doors. Bringing up the bulbous rear, is an oval rear window, a large curved trunk and two protruding long oval taillights. Dual exhaust peek out from the curved rear bumper. All exterior paint is very glossy and dent free. Interior The dash in beautiful black with loads of art deco styled chrome and houses two round instruments, a clock and a speedometer. These are flanked by a glovebox on the passenger side, and 4 rectangular gauges on the left of the speedo. In the center we see an aftermarket AMFMCassette radio with vertical ribbed chrome speaker enclosure above. Fronting the dash is an original steering wheel complete with Ford logo in gold field in the center. Nicely sculpted tweed gray seats with seatbelts in bucket form are in the front, and a stitched bench in the rear. Headliner is tight, and nice gray carpet floods the floors. A Lokar shifter sits proudly in the center in front of a custom-made center console. Drivetrain Within a patina engine bay sits a 302ci V8 and it is attached to a 3-speed automatic transmission. The engine sports Cobra valve covers, and a chromed air cleaner top. Undercarriage Overall the passage of time shows but all surface rust free, and structurally sound. A dull shine prevails, and all appears to be mechanically sound underneath, with drum brakes on all 4 corners. Take a 48 Ford, work the panels until they are perfect, then polish all the chrome and stainless that will adorn the car, pop i n a 302ci mill and an automatic transmission, and painstakingly restore the interior to a new modern version with buckets and seat belts, and my friends you have a super cool, art deco styled fender, but no running boarded, classic rod if you will, that will enable you to travel in style and comfort, while enjoying the vintage aspect of this fine example, fully restored and rebuilt. A quick starter and smooth runner, this car could go to any show throughout the US, drive there by itself with no trailer, and still turn heads. Bought it out of the local paper, advertised as a 54 I talked him down to $5000 because it wasnt really what I was after but now I couldnt think of parting with it.

Everything stock standard, as it was in 48, last registered 1966.

Im the third Owner, it was a grandfathers hand me down to a son that had no room and had to sell it.

Had new life breathed into it by Garry at Rebel Restorations Gosford and it runs like a dream.

Ive since pulled it all apart now and am in the process of sanding everything back for a home spray job and DIY re-trim.
